Divisions - Colleges & Universities

College basketball is one of the most popular college sports in the U.S., and its scholarship numbers reflect that. In NCAA Division 1, basketball is a headcount sport for both men and women. That means each team can award a certain amount of full scholarships. The limit per team is 13 for men's teams and 15 for women's teams. In Division II and lower, basketball is an equivalency sport with a scholarship limit of 10. That means teams can divvy up 10 full scholarships any way they like. They could have 10 players on full scholarship, 15 on two-thirds scholarship or 20 players on half scholarships. Not all schools choose to fund scholarships to the maximum numbers, and private school scholarships often are worth more than those at public schools.
