Field Hockey is an equivalency sport for NCAA scholarship purposes. Partial scholarships are allowed in equivalency sports, and may be awarded to extend a school's scholarship limit. For example, an NCAA Division I school has a limit of 12 scholarships: It may award full scholarships to 12 players, 2/3 scholarships to 18 players, or other combinations, as long as the total scholarships do not exceed 12. Average Athletic Scholarship is the average amount of student aid awarded to each athlete, calculated for ALL varsity sports programs. Athletes receive full and partial awards, while many receive none. Awards vary by sport, as each program receives a different level of funding. Private schools may have offer more awards, on average, due to higher tuition rates.
